Future-Fit 2020; The 6 BIG Questions for the New World of Leadership

Thank you to the many of you kindly took time to respond to our Game of Thrones leadership survey recently. What we found was interesting to say the least. Mostly almost all of you all felt that it was Sansa Stark who most portrayed the characteristics of a leader with one or two exceptions that gave rise to John Snow and Tyrion Lannister. Other questions we asked included;

How do you influence people?

When asked what motivates you in terms of the opinions of others versus your own opinion, 80% of you responded it was a balance with just 20% stating they were driven by their own opinions first. Yet 100% of of you believed in leading, in your own area of expertise and following others in theirs.

Off the back of the above and to gain and understanding of what’s being done in the leadership space, we recently surveyed 80 leaders from various industries and organisations in Johannesburg to explore both the plight and opportunities for leadership, learning and people in the organisation as a potential catalyst for change. We asked leaders in the room the following questions;

What is the biggest challenge you face in your role?

“What is your highest priority as an organisation over the next 12 months?

We also asked how future fit people felt their organisations were, how collaborative they felt their teams were and how would they describe leadership development in their companies. We asked all of this not just because we wanted to collate data and understand the state of organisations in South Africa better but because we know that the tasks of tomorrow mean asking better questions today.

In the face of the 4IR, people often talk about having the capability to face the future but the future is already in play. Future fit means being to embrace the current context of change AND being able to meet the demands of tomorrow. We hope you enjoy, we’d love to hear your comments.
