You have a great vision for 2010.
You carry the pictures, feelings and sounds of your dream within you.
You can feel the energy and adrenalin pumping through your veins as you visualise 2010.
You can communicate that vision with precision. Now it is time to manage the vision.
If you don’t manage your energy and priorities, taking action to the specifics of your vision, it will simply remain a dream, a wish. Your role as a manager is to plan, organise and control the process towards your vision. The old adage ‘A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step’ has never been more true.
Having decided on what you REALLY want, the manager in you answers the question ‘how will I get there?’ As a manager, you have to adopt an orientation towards action. A manager is able to :-
- attend to detail
- see the small steps and take them
- set time frames for action steps and milestones as a check and control
- take stock of the resources available
- plan to acquire any resources needed
- relentlessly persist in keeping a routine and sticking to a schedule
To manage, you need to commit the plan to paper and determine your priorities. The manager in you will think and act in terms of the processes and procedures you need to actualise your vision. More often than not, it is the series of small actions you take consistently that bring big visions into reality.
Start to manage 2010 by setting up your plan. Then revisit it daily to add more detail, to prioritise again and to allocate your resources with ever increasing wisdom.
